Thousands of candidates across the country can now access their secondary school examination outcomes after the government officially released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. The announcement marked a key milestone for learners transitioning to higher education and training institutions.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba presided over the release ceremony held on January 9, 2026, at Chebisas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. Data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) shows that 996,078 candidates sat for the examination across 10,755 centres nationwide.
KNEC has made the results available through several verified platforms to ensure ease of access while safeguarding candidate information.
How to Check 2025 KCSE Results
Via SMS
Candidates can receive their results by sending their index number to 20076. Each SMS costs Ksh 25.
Online via KNEC Portal
Results are also accessible through the official #KNEC results portal. Candidates are required to enter their index number, select the 2025 examination year, and submit to view or print a provisional result slip. KNEC confirmed the system has been optimized to manage high traffic and prevent unauthorized access.
In addition, schools will receive official printed result slips. Candidates facing delays online are advised to collect their results directly from their schools.
The Ministry of Education has cautioned the public against fake links and misleading information circulating online, stressing that only official KNEC platforms should be used.
Understanding Symbols on KCSE Result Slips
Some candidates may notice symbols on their results. ‘X’ indicates absence in one or more papers, while ‘Y’ means results were cancelled due to examination irregularities. ‘P’ shows results are pending due to entry issues, ‘W’ means results are withheld pending investigations, and ‘U’ indicates ungraded subjects.
Correcting Errors in KCSE Results
Candidates are advised to carefully review their personal details and subject entries after accessing their results. Any discrepancies should be reported immediately to the school administration, which will forward the issue to KNEC through the Query Management Information System (QMIS) for correction and follow-up. #Kcpe
