Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he instructed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua to organise a major political meeting bringing together Mt Kenya leaders.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Uhuru described the allegations as false, misleading and deliberately crafted to misinform the public. He cautioned Kenyans against spreading unverified information purported to originate from him, noting that he has not issued any directive related to Mt Kenya political mobilisation or current political activities.

The statement, released through his Secretary of Communication Kanze Dena Mararo, clarified that the former president is not involved in the alleged plans and has not authorised anyone to speak or act on his behalf in relation to the claims. According to the statement, the circulating posts do not reflect Uhuru’s views, position, or intentions regarding regional or national politics.

“The Office of the 4th President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has observed with concern the deliberate circulation of false and misleading content on social media platforms,” the statement read. It further warned that such misinformation risks misleading the public and fueling unnecessary political tension.

Uhuru’s office urged Kenyans to exercise caution when consuming and sharing information online, emphasizing the importance of verifying the authenticity of statements attributed to public figures. The former president reaffirmed that any official communication from his office would be conveyed through recognised and credible channels.

The clarification comes amid heightened political activity and speculation around Mt Kenya politics, with various actors positioning themselves ahead of future political realignments. Uhuru’s statement seeks to distance him from ongoing manoeuvres and reinforce his stance against the spread of misinformation.
