Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama and her family are in deep mourning following the sudden death of her only son, Moses Nduya Muthama.
According to reports, Moses collapsed on the evening of Wednesday, February 4, after experiencing breathing difficulties. Efforts to rush him to a nearby hospital were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival, leaving the family devastated.
Moses was the only child of Senator Kavindu and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, who also served as chairperson of the United Democratic Alliance. His untimely death has shocked Machakos and the wider Kenyan community, with leaders and friends expressing condolences on social media.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama and her family during this difficult time,” said Kitui Senator Enock Wambua. “I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Pole sana, Mheshimiwa.”
While the exact circumstances surrounding Moses’ death remain unclear, his body has been preserved at a local mortuary in Machakos, pending a postmortem.
This tragedy comes nearly three years after Johnson Muthama lost his daughter, Janet Njoki, in April 2022. The family had kept the circumstances of her death private, and she was later laid to rest at their home in Tala, Machakos County.
Senator Kavindu now joins other senior political figures who have recently experienced personal losses, including Dagoretti MP Beatrice Elachi, who lost her son in March last year, and Speaker Moses Wetangula, who lost his brother in December.
