Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga has sharply criticized the party’s Secretary General, Senator Edwin Sifuna, over remarks he made during a recent Citizen TV interview with Yvonne Okwara.
In a strongly worded letter dated Friday, Oburu accused Sifuna of advancing personal views under the guise of official party positions, warning that such conduct risks misleading ODM members and supporters.
“In recent months, the Secretary General has struggled to distinguish between his personal opinions and official party policy, creating unnecessary confusion within the party,” #Oburu stated.
Oburu further took issue with Sifuna’s claims questioning the legitimacy of some national party officials, saying the argument was contradictory and selectively applied.
“When #Sifuna questioned the legality of certain national officials on the basis that they were elected by the National Governing Council, he overlooked a fundamental fact: he himself was elected Secretary General by the same organ in February 2018,” Oburu wrote.
He noted that Sifuna served in that role until February 2022, when his position was subsequently endorsed by the National Delegates Conference (NDC).
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to constitutionalism, Oburu said ODM has consistently adhered to the rule of law since its inception.
“ODM has, since its formation, demonstrated fidelity to its Constitution and the rule of law. The same principle has placed every individual in their rightful position, including that of Senator Sifuna,” he said.
Oburu concluded by emphasizing that all current party officials are lawfully in office and fully backed by resolutions of the party’s recognized governing organs.
“We want to state categorically that all party officials are serving substantially and are supported by resolutions of the party organs. No one is bigger than the party,” Oburu added.
Edwin Sifuna who was days ago hosted on Citizen Tv with Yvonne Okwara, also revealed to the public that the ongoing Linda Ground tours led by Oburu Odinga are fully funded by outsiders who want to take over the party.
His claims would immediately attract support from Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga.
