Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata sustained a heel tendon injury on Wednesday, February 18, while attending an international gathering in Nairobi, the county government has confirmed.
According to an official statement from Murang’a County, the governor’s injury occurred when he accidentally tripped during a Nutritional International meeting, forcing him to step back from physical office duties for the next month.
“Murang’a County Government wishes to inform the public that H.E. Gov. Irungu Kang’ata was today attending a Nutritional International meeting in Nairobi when he unfortunately tripped and sustained an injury to his heel tendons,” the statement read.
The county assured residents that despite the injury, the governor will continue to oversee county operations remotely, delegating on-ground responsibilities to his deputy and senior officials. Health teams have also confirmed that the injury, while painful, is not life-threatening and can be managed through rest, physiotherapy, and limited mobility.
Political analysts note that the governor’s temporary absence from full office duties may shift some administrative workflows but are confident that contingency measures in Murang’a County will ensure continuity in service delivery.
Residents and well-wishers have since sent messages of support and prayers for a speedy recovery. The county government has pledged to provide timely updates on the governor’s progress as he recuperates over the coming weeks.
