Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized cannabis valued at approximately KSh 8.1 million following a dramatic pursuit along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.
Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit operating in the Rift Valley region intercepted a blue Toyota Voxy, registration number KCS 496B, during a routine patrol on March 14, 2026, after the vehicle raised suspicion.
When detectives signaled the driver to stop, he allegedly defied the order and sped off, triggering a high-speed chase toward the Kaptembwa area.
During the pursuit, officers managed to deflate the vehicle’s front right tyre. Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving toward the 140 Area before abandoning the vehicle in a vacant plot near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to escape on foot.
The suspect, identified as David Muraya, 35, was quickly cornered and arrested by the pursuing detectives.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 13 sacks containing dry green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa. The consignment weighed approximately 272 kilograms and is estimated to be worth about KSh 8,160,000.
Muraya remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against narcotics trafficking and dismantling networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
