Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, January 12, issued a series of defiant and politically charged remarks, claiming his personal security had been withdrawn by the government and warning of rising political tensions ahead of the next general election.

Speaking to the media, #Gachagua told Kenyans that his safety was no longer guaranteed, alleging that the state had withdrawn his security detail despite his removal from office. He maintained, however, that he continues to enjoy massive public support. “I want to tell the people of Kenya that Rigathi Gachagua is not safe. The government withdrew security from him. Despite the fact that he was removed from office, millions of Kenyans are behind him,” he said.

Gachagua also revealed what he described as an intimidation attempt ahead of a planned visit to Nakuru County. According to him, Mburu, the husband of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, allegedly sent him a message warning him not to travel to the county. Dismissing the warning, Gachagua said he would proceed with the visit next month and publicly shared his itinerary. “I shall be there next month. Whatever will happen, let it happen,” he stated.

In a separate political salvo, the embattled ex-DP suggested he could call on former President Uhuru Kenyatta to return to active politics if circumstances demanded. “In case things get tough for us in future, I will order Uhuru to come out of retirement and help us,” he said.

He also weighed in on opposition politics, dismissing suggestions that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka could abandon his support base for smaller voting blocs. Gachagua likened such a move to President William Ruto’s past political gamble, warning it could be costly.

The remarks are expected to further inflame Kenya’s already tense political atmosphere.
