Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuro Aukot has challenged National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to use State intelligence agencies to establish the truth behind the death of veteran politician and businessman Cyrus Jirongo.

In a strongly worded statement, Aukot said uncovering the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death would help put speculation and public suspicion to rest. He accused Wetang’ula of avoiding the issue despite being adversely mentioned in public discourse related to the matter.

According to Aukot, as Speaker of the National Assembly and a senior state official, Wetang’ula has access to critical intelligence resources that could shed light on what transpired. He argued that Wetang’ula should demand comprehensive briefings from agencies such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Police Service, and the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Aukot urged the Speaker to push for a detailed reconstruction of Jirongo’s final movements and make the findings public before the matter is conclusively handled in court. He maintained that transparency at this stage would enhance public confidence and lend credibility to any assurances being issued.

“Only by speaking openly and relying on verified intelligence can the truth be known,” Aukot said, adding that silence and ambiguity only fuel suspicion. His remarks were made on December 31, as debate around Jirongo’s death continues to attract national attention.
