Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has spoken out about a heated confrontation with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, saying he tried to calm the situation and keep politics away from family matters, but Alai allegedly ignored his plea.

In a statement released on Sunday, January 4, Babu said the incident happened on Saturday afternoon at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani, where he had gone for a meeting with a senior clergyman. He noted that he was without his security officers, whom he had sent on Christmas leave.

According to Babu, after about twenty minutes into the meeting, he noticed Robert Alai seated at a nearby table with several people. The MP said Alai confronted him and accused him of coordinating online attacks against Alai’s wife — claims Babu firmly denied.

Babu said he calmly told Alai that he does not know his wife and has never had any dealings with her.

“I made it clear that I don’t know his wife and that she has never wronged me. I also told him that politics should be kept away from families and personal lives,” #Babu said.

However, Babu claims that Alai was not willing to listen and instead became aggressive. He alleged that Alai pushed him, pulled out a firearm, and hit him on the chest and jaw in the presence of other diners.

The situation reportedly worsened when Alai allegedly poured a glass of water on Babu’s face, drawing the attention of other patrons inside the restaurant.

To prevent the confrontation from escalating further, Babu said he chose to leave the premises immediately and later reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station.

The MP linked the incident to what he described as ongoing political intimidation against him, claiming similar confrontations have occurred in the past.

The incident has triggered mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans calling for swift police action. As of the time of publishing, Robert Alai had not issued a response, and police had not released an official statement regarding the matter.
