CCTV footage has emerged shedding new light on a dramatic altercation involving Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and Kileleshwa Ward Member of County Assembly Robert Alai, capturing the tense moments that preceded a confrontation at a Kilimani restaurant. The incident, which has drawn public attention and prompted investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), occurred at Cedars Restaurant and has raised serious questions about the conduct of elected leaders in public spaces.

The footage, now in the hands of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), captures events that unfolded on January 3, 2026, at Cedars Restaurant in Kilimani. According to the recordings, the two politicians were initially seated several metres apart in separate gazebos within the establishment.

At around 4:01 pm, Babu Owino is seen standing up from his table and walking towards another gazebo where Alai was seated alongside a group of about six men. The initial interaction appears calm, with handshakes exchanged between the MP and the group, suggesting a cordial engagement.

However, the situation changes dramatically approximately two minutes later. The footage shows Alai suddenly standing up and pushing Babu Owino, triggering a brief physical scuffle as the MP attempts to shield himself. Moments later, Alai is seen drawing what appears to be a firearm and cocking it, causing panic among patrons who scatter in fear.

At about 4:09 pm, a female customer intervenes in an attempt to calm the situation. The footage allegedly shows Alai turning his aggression towards her and striking her, prompting another patron to rush in and assist the woman.

The confrontation then spills over to a third gazebo, where Alai is captured allegedly throwing an object in Babu Owino’s direction. Shortly afterward, the Embakasi East MP is seen calmly exiting the restaurant through one of the gates.

Despite the footage, Alai has denied any wrongdoing, insisting he did not brandish a firearm during the altercation. Babu Owino, on his part, has urged authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the truth and ensure accountability under the law.
