Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has launched a scathing attack on East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga following her Tuesday night interview on Citizen TV, questioning her leadership credentials and political ideology.

In a strongly worded statement, the outspoken senator claimed that Odinga’s television appearance exposed what he termed as a lack of clarity of thought, incoherence, and absence of a defined ideological grounding. According to Cherargei, the interview was marked by what he described as populist rhetoric rather than substantive policy positions.

“After yesterday’s Citizen TV interview, Winnie Odinga was completely exposed for lack of clarity of thought, incoherent, and lacking any known ideology or principles,” Cherargei said, adding that she relied heavily on populist tactics.

The senator further challenged Odinga to outline tangible achievements during her tenure as Kenya’s representative to the EALA, arguing that she failed to cite even a single accomplishment, which in his view points to a lack of a proven track record.

Cherargei also weighed in on internal dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), accusing Odinga of being evasive when discussing the party’s leadership and future. He claimed that she appeared reluctant to dismiss the notion that ODM is part of her family inheritance, suggesting this was the reason behind what he termed as “shadow boxing” with her uncle, Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Odinga.

According to Cherargei, Odinga’s remarks implied that she considers herself the “heir apparent” to the ODM leadership, an assertion that could further inflame succession debates within the party.

Winnie Odinga has not publicly responded to the senator’s remarks though she had a blistering interview on Tuesday that irked a section of top political class.
