Union leader and politician Seth Panyako has been removed from the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND) Board following changes announced within President William Ruto’s administration.

In a notice issued on Friday, January 23, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi confirmed that Panyako’s appointment had been revoked with immediate effect. The decision effectively ends Panyako’s tenure as a board member of the pension scheme that serves employees of local authorities.

According to Mbadi, the move was made in line with the law governing the fund. He cited Section 5 of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, which grants the Treasury Cabinet Secretary powers to appoint and dismiss members of the LAPFUND Board.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) (d) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury revokes the appointment of Seth Panyako as a member of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Board,” the notice stated.

Panyako, who also serves as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) vice chairperson, is a prominent figure in Kenya’s labour movement and political space. His removal comes amid broader adjustments within key state corporations and boards as the government continues to realign leadership structures.

No immediate replacement or reasons beyond the legal provision were announced at the time of the revocation.
