Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a murder suspect in Nairobi following days of a targeted manhunt and recovered a firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen property, the agency said on Sunday, December 21.

The operation, involving detectives from Dandora and Shauri Moyo estates, culminated along Gallole Street in Eastleigh, where officers cornered the suspect identified as Peter Kimani, also known as “Kim”. Upon arrest and a quick search, investigators recovered a Retay Falcon pistol, a live 9 mm hollow-point round, and a spent cartridge of the same calibre.

The Retay Falcon firearm has featured in previous criminal investigations in Kenya, including recovery operations linked to robbery cases in Naivasha and as evidence in other major probes, underscoring its prevalence in criminal activity.

In addition to the weapon and ammunition, detectives impounded a red motorcycle suspected to be stolen, suggesting links to broader criminal conduct. Kimani remains in custody as DCI completes investigations before formal arraignment in court, with forensic and ballistics examinations likely to form part of the prosecution’s evidence.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations targeting violent crime and illegal firearms circulation, urging the public to continue sharing information to aid law enforcement efforts and enhance community safety.
