Detectives have recovered a high-end, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK350d that had mysteriously disappeared from a garage in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area, triggering a multi-agency investigation and an ongoing manhunt for the suspects involved.
The luxury vehicle was booked into the garage on January 30, 2026, for a routine paint job. However, its unexplained disappearance soon raised alarm, particularly after the watchman on duty also went missing under suspicious circumstances. Efforts to reach him proved futile as his mobile phone was switched off, prompting investigators to circulate the vehicle as stolen.
A coordinated team of detectives drawn from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Nairobi Region, Gigiri, and officers from Imbirikani Police Station launched intensive investigations. Following forensic intelligence and tracking leads, the team successfully traced the vehicle to the busy Mombasa Road.
What followed was a swift operation that culminated in a police roadblock mounted by Imbirikani officers in Kajiado South Sub-County. Upon realizing they had been cornered, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and fled on foot into nearby thickets, escaping towards Oltiasika and Nosilale villages before they could be apprehended.
A detailed inspection of the Mercedes-Benz confirmed it matched the description of the stolen vehicle. Detectives also established that the car had been tampered with in an apparent attempt to evade detection. A fake front registration plate, bearing the number KDR 003N, had been fitted to disguise its identity.
The recovered vehicle has since been seized and escorted back to Nairobi as investigations continue. Detectives have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the suspects, vowing to dismantle the criminal network behind the theft and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Members of the public are urged to assist law enforcement by sharing any information that may aid the investigation.
