Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed viral social media claims alleging that the government quietly released the 2024 KCSE results, insisting that no such announcement has been made and urging the public to ignore the misleading reports.
The false reports gained traction online after social media posts alleged that Kapsabet Boys High School had emerged as the top-performing school nationally — despite a standing government policy that bars the ranking of schools in national examinations.
The misinformation was fueled by a widely shared screenshot purporting to show CS Ogamba announcing the results during a television broadcast. The post quickly spread across multiple platforms, triggering confusion among parents, candidates, and schools.
Reacting to the claims, Ogamba strongly denied the reports, urging Kenyans to disregard them.
“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” the CS said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The Ministry of Education reiterated that the official release of KCSE results can only be conducted by the ministry through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
A senior source at KNEC also dismissed the rumors, calling for calm among parents and candidates.
“There is no cause for alarm. Only the Ministry has the authority to communicate officially on the release of results. Historically, we do not announce exact dates in advance, and that has not changed,” the source said.
In December, while attending the Omogusii Cultural Festival at Kenyoro School Grounds in Nyamira County, CS Ogamba had indicated that the 2024 KCSE results would be released in the second week of January 2025, before January 15.
“KCSE results will be released within the next two weeks. Traditionally, the results are announced in January, and we are maintaining that practice,” Ogamba stated at the time.
The CS also addressed confusion surrounding examination timelines, noting that results usually released in December were for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), which was not administered this year following the rollout of the new education curriculum.
“KCPE results were previously announced in December, but since the examination was not conducted this year, that may have caused confusion,” he explained.
The 2024 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 22 and November, with 965,501 candidates sitting the exams across 10,755 examination centers nationwide — an increase from 903,138 candidates in 2023.
Marking of the examinations was completed on December 13, 2024, following intensive assessment sessions held at 35 marking centers across the country.
