A bus carrying supporters of Football Kenya Federation Premier League side AFC Leopards was involved in an accident on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Timboroa area along the busy highway, injuring several passengers.
The bus, operated by Latema commuter services and commonly used on Nairobi routes, reportedly lost control before overturning while transporting the club’s fans. The supporters were said to be travelling from a match when the incident occurred, triggering panic among passengers and other road users.
AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani confirmed the incident, assuring the public that no lives were lost. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Ambani expressed concern over the welfare of the injured fans and conveyed his best wishes for their quick recovery. He also thanked emergency responders and well-wishers who assisted at the scene.
Those injured were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment, though the exact number of casualties and the severity of their injuries had not been immediately established by authorities.
The accident occurred at a time when road safety concerns are high across the country due to increased travel during the festive season. Heavy rains, foggy conditions and slippery roads have been blamed for a spike in traffic accidents in several regions, particularly along major highways.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has repeatedly cautioned motorists to exercise extra vigilance, especially in areas prone to poor visibility. Pedestrians and passengers have also been urged to remain alert and adhere to safety guidelines to reduce the risk of accidents.
Investigations into the cause of the Timboroa crash are ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
