Vocal Rangwe Member of Parliament Lilian Gogo on Wednesday publicly confronted Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba during a public education forum, accusing him of ignoring calls and sidelining elected leaders in his engagements.
In a video clip that has since gone viral on social media, the legislator is heard demanding that the CS be more responsive to both members of the public and their representatives. Gogo faulted Ogamba for allegedly failing to pick or return her calls, even when she sought to raise urgent education-related concerns affecting Rangwe Constituency.
“Why don’t you pick your calls? You don’t return my texts. I don’t call you for anything personal,” the MP told the CS in front of attendees at the forum.
Gogo maintained that her attempts to reach the Education Ministry were strictly official and aimed at addressing pressing issues within her constituency, including matters affecting schools and learners.
The outspoken lawmaker further accused the Cabinet Secretary of visiting the area and convening education meetings without involving local elected leaders, saying such actions undermine effective representation and coordination.
She insisted that meaningful progress in the education sector requires close collaboration between the ministry, Members of Parliament, and grassroots leadership.
The confrontation sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans praising Gogo for standing up for her constituents, while others urged leaders to resolve disputes through established government channels.
The Education Cabinet Secretary had not publicly responded to the claims by the time of publication.
