Former Lugari and Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchy has passed away while receiving treatment at Eldoret Hospital after a long battle with illness. He was 72.
Kibunguchy was a seasoned politician whose career spanned nearly two decades, during which he served the people of Lugari and Likuyani with dedication and resilience. He first entered Parliament in 2003 after succeeding the late Cyrus Jirongo as the Member of Parliament for Lugari. His election marked the beginning of a national legislative journey that would see him play an active role in shaping local and national development debates until 2007.
Following the creation of Likuyani Constituency, Kibunguchy returned to elective politics and was elected its Member of Parliament in 2013. He went on to serve two consecutive terms, remaining in office until 2022. During this period, he championed development initiatives focused on infrastructure, education, agriculture, and social welfare, earning him respect across political divides. Constituents remember him as an accessible leader who maintained close ties with the grassroots.
Throughout his political life, Kibunguchy worked with various political parties, reflecting Kenya’s evolving political landscape. He was affiliated with FORD-Kenya during his early years, later joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and most recently aligned himself with the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), which he joined earlier this year.
Leaders from across the political spectrum have paid tribute to Kibunguchy as a calm, principled, and hardworking public servant. His death marks the end of a notable chapter in the political history of Kakamega County, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to the people he represented.
