Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has taken a bold and politically risky step by directly linking President William Ruto to an alleged multi-million-shilling fraud case originating from Minnesota in the United States.

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kiratina in Komothai, Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, on Sunday, January 4, Gachagua claimed that funds meant to support persons living with disabilities in the US were allegedly stolen, funneled into Kenya, and invested in local real estate – with the President named as a beneficiary.

According to Gachagua, the money was allegedly laundered through property acquisitions, including land, residential developments, and the construction of a shopping mall in Eastleigh, Nairobi, which he claimed is owned by an associate of President Ruto.

“That money was intended to help people with disabilities. It was stolen, brought to Kenya, and invested in land, houses, and a mall,” Gachagua alleged.

In a move likely to heighten political tensions, Gachagua further claimed that part of the funds was used to finance political campaigns, directly suggesting that President Ruto benefited from the proceeds.

“The United States knows where the money went, and they are now looking for it. Part of that money allegedly went into campaign financing,” he said, in remarks widely interpreted as referring to the President.

Gachagua also issued a dramatic appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump, calling on American authorities to fast-track the extradition of individuals linked to the alleged scheme.

“We are appealing to Trump. Do not waste time with court processes. Do what you did in Venezuela. Send a plane, pick that fellow, and prosecute him,” Gachagua said.

He further alleged – without providing evidence – that senior government figures were holding meetings aimed at influencing the judiciary to issue injunctions that could block extraditions tied to the case.

By publicly naming the President in an international fraud allegation, Gachagua’s remarks mark one of his most confrontational political statements yet, a move that analysts say could significantly escalate tensions both locally and abroad.
