Title: Government to Conduct Door-to-Door Exercise to Track JSS and Senior School Learners
Government officials will soon begin a nationwide door-to-door inspection to identify learners who have not yet reported to Junior Secondary School (JSS) or Senior Secondary Schools.
In a statement released on Sunday, January 18, the Ministry of Interior said the exercise is aimed at ensuring that all school-age learners are accounted for and reengaged before official reporting deadlines lapse. The ministry noted that the initiative will help authorities understand the reasons behind non-enrolment and put in place targeted interventions to return affected learners to school.
According to the ministry, the government will work closely with local administrators, parents, and communities to trace learners who are still at home and guide them back into the education system. Special attention will be given to vulnerable households where financial challenges may be a barrier to school attendance.
To address this, the government announced that scholarships and bursaries will be channelled through county governments, the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs). This approach is intended to streamline support, reduce cases of financial exclusion, and ensure that assistance reaches learners who need it most.
The ministry emphasised that education remains a top national priority and urged parents and guardians to cooperate with officials during the exercise to guarantee a smooth transition for learners into their respective schools.
