National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has launched a sharp attack on former President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming the retired head of state is still struggling to come to terms with the outcome of the 2022 General Election.
Speaking during a political engagement, Ichung’wah argued that Uhuru has not fully accepted the loss suffered by his then preferred candidate, the late Raila Odinga who lost to William Ruto despite the then head of State pushing the former to succeed him.
According to the Kikuyu MP, the former president allowed political differences to become deeply personal, a move he says continues to influence his public remarks and political posture.
Ichung’wah maintained that the 2022 contest marked a turning point in Kenyan politics, noting that Uhuru’s decision to campaign against his then-deputy, Dr. Ruto, shocked many Kenyans. He suggested that the former president underestimated Ruto’s political strength and grassroots appeal, leading to disappointment when the electorate chose a different path.
The Majority Leader further claimed that healing and acceptance are essential for the country’s political stability, urging leaders who lost in previous elections to move on and respect the will of the people. He emphasized that Kenya must focus on development and unity rather than revisiting past political rivalries.
Uhuru Kenyatta has in recent months made several public statements touching on governance and leadership, which have drawn mixed reactions from leaders allied to the current administration of William Ruto.
