Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has intensified calls for strict discipline within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging action against officials he says have publicly undermined party leadership, including Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking on Friday in Rarieda Constituency during the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity Project, Wandayi stressed that senior party officials must respect party organs and resolve disputes internally.
“If you are a party leader occupying the position of Secretary General, you must respect fellow leaders and party structures,” Wandayi said. “Public attacks against colleagues are unacceptable and amount to indiscipline.”
He further called on Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, who also serves as ODM vice-chairperson, to help guide the party in addressing what he described as growing indiscipline among members.
Otiende Affirms ODM Unity
Otiende, speaking alongside Wandayi, emphasized confidence in ODM’s leadership under interim party leader Oburu Oginga. He assured that the party remains united and capable of handling internal differences as it prepares for upcoming political engagements.
Kaluma Slams Sifuna Over Competence
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma weighed in on the dispute, sharply criticizing Sifuna. Kaluma described the ODM Secretary General as “loud-mouthed,” arguing that he lacked the moral authority to lecture the party, pointing out that Sifuna’s ward-level MCA is not elected on an ODM ticket.
Background: Sifuna’s Public Criticism
The remarks come amid ongoing criticism from Sifuna, who has accused some ODM leaders of attempting to align the party with President William Ruto’s administration, claims that have deepened internal debate and friction.
Party insiders say the comments from Wandayi, Kaluma, and other officials reflect growing pressure on Sifuna, signaling that ODM is taking internal discipline and unity seriously ahead of future political contests.
