American YouTuber and streamer iShowSpeed has caused a wave of excitement in Kenya following his visit to Nairobi as part of his ongoing “Speed Does Africa” tour. On Sunday, hundreds of fans thronged the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, eager to catch a glimpse of the global internet sensation whose presence has dominated online and offline conversations.
During his time in the capital, #iShowSpeed immersed himself in Kenyan culture and experiences. He explored the city from the skies, taking a breathtaking helicopter ride that offered him a bird’s-eye view of Nairobi’s skyline. On the ground, he visited Kenyatta Market, where he bought a Kenyan shirt, further endearing himself to local fans. He also sampled Kenyan cuisine for the first time, trying ugali – a staple food – and sharing his reactions with millions watching online.
One particularly viral moment saw the #YouTuber autographing a fan’s cheek, a gesture that underscored the intensity of the fan devotion he attracted during the visit. These interactions, streamed live, significantly boosted his online following.
Kenya proved to be a standout stop on his Africa tour in terms of digital growth. iShowSpeed officially surpassed 48 million subscribers while in the country, gaining more than 230,000 new subscribers in a single livestream – the highest growth he has recorded in any African country visited so far. Overall, he reported a surge of about 360,000 subscribers during his Kenya stay.
Visibly moved by the reception, Speed praised Kenyan fans for their support. “I love you all so much. We gained 360,000 subscribers and reached 48 million. Kenya, we will never forget you. Kenya is number one right now,” he said while celebrating the milestone.
His visit not only highlighted Kenya’s growing influence in global digital culture but also reinforced the country’s reputation as a passionate hub for international entertainment figures.
