Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim has died at the age of 69 after undergoing medical treatment following his return from India, where he had been admitted for specialized care.

Justice Ibrahim had served at Kenya’s apex court since June 2011, building a distinguished judicial career marked by integrity, calm authority, and intellectual depth.

During his tenure, he was a key member of the benches that heard the highly contested presidential election petitions of 2013 and 2022, cases that shaped Kenya’s constitutional and democratic landscape.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Faith Odhiambo, led tributes to the late judge, describing him as “a towering source of inspiration to all who dared to dream.”

In her statement, Odhiambo praised Justice Ibrahim’s conduct on the bench, noting that he served with “unparalleled grace and distinguished intellect,” and that his rare calmness reflected a deep understanding of judicial authority as a duty to serve the public.

She added that his death is “a great loss to the Supreme Court, the Judiciary, and the administration of justice in Kenya,” noting that Justice Ibrahim was scheduled to retire officially on January 1, 2026, upon attaining the mandatory constitutional retirement age of 70.
