Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has demanded the immediate suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West, citing safety concerns following recent building incidents in the area.

The call comes on the heels of a tragic building collapse in South C, which left multiple people trapped and sparked fears over construction safety standards in the growing Nairobi suburbs. Speaking to the press, Jalang’o described the collapse as “deeply alarming” and warned that unchecked development could put more lives at risk.

“We unequivocally demand the immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards,” said the MP. He emphasized that no project should continue until regulatory authorities conduct thorough inspections and verify compliance with building codes.

Jalang’o criticized lapses in oversight, noting that rapid urban expansion has often outpaced proper planning and enforcement. He called on county and national agencies to step up monitoring, ensuring that developers adhere to safety standards before resuming any construction work.

The lawmaker also urged residents to remain calm while rescue teams continue efforts to help victims of the South C collapse. He assured the community that authorities and local leadership are working together to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This firm stance by Jalang’o highlights growing public concern over construction safety in Nairobi’s rapidly developing neighborhoods, where high-rise projects and new estates have become increasingly common.

Residents and developers alike are now watching closely, as the MP’s call for a halt could set the tone for stricter enforcement and heightened accountability across the wards.
