Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi has issued a strong warning to the party’s top leadership, stating that he would be unable to continue serving in ODM if Secretary General Edwin Sifuna is forced out.
Addressing supporters in Bungoma on Tuesday, #Osotsi defended Sifuna, saying his political positions have remained consistent and principled over time. He noted that the views Sifuna expressed during the tenure of the party’s late leader Raila Odinga are the same positions he continues to hold under the current party leadership led by Oburu Odinga.
Osotsi questioned the motive behind renewed calls to remove Sifuna, arguing that if Raila Odinga never found fault with the Secretary General’s conduct or statements, then the current leadership has no justification to threaten his position.
“First of all, Sifuna is our son,” Osotsi said. “What he spoke then was known and approved by Baba. Everything he has stood for up to now was guided by instructions from our former party leader.”
The ODM deputy leader cautioned that targeting #Sifuna could deepen divisions within the party, particularly among the Luhya community, which he said views the Secretary General’s role as significant and symbolic.
Osotsi further revealed that his previous position on withdrawing from ODM leadership remains unchanged should Sifuna be removed. He emphasized that his stance is not personal but rooted in fairness, consistency, and respect for party history and unity.
His remarks add a new layer of tension within #ODM as internal debates intensify over discipline, leadership authority, and the future direction of the party.
