Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has challenged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership to fast-track the removal of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna from his position, accusing him of advancing interests that are no longer aligned with the party’s leadership.

Addressing supporters during an ODM rally held yesterday, Sunday, Mbadi said the continued stay of Sifuna and other members of what he termed as a “rebel faction” within ODM was only weakening the party from within. According to Mbadi, the faction is already conflicted and unwilling to work in unity with the rest of the party.

“He is already advancing the interests of someone else. Whether we keep him for how long, he will not improve. Allow him to go,” Mbadi stated, drawing cheers from the crowd. He argued that ODM would be better off without leaders who openly undermine party cohesion and discipline.

The Treasury CS further reminded party members that ODM operates under a constitution that must be respected by all, regardless of rank or seniority. He emphasized that Sifuna cannot be treated as an exception, insisting that adherence to party rules is critical to maintaining order and unity.

Mbadi maintained that expelling those who defy party principles would ultimately strengthen ODM rather than weaken it. “When the group is thrown out, the party will remain stronger and more focused,” he said.

He also urged ODM members to remain loyal to the current party leader, calling for patience and respect to allow him to effectively run party affairs. Mbadi likened the situation to the past, noting that the late Raila Odinga was accorded respect and space to lead, a tradition he said should continue for the good of the party.
