At least four passengers are feared dead after a Uwezo bus traveling to Busia crashed along the Fort Tenan section of the Londiani-Muhoroni road in Kericho County early Tuesday morning.

Preliminary reports indicate the bus collided with the rear of a truck at a known blackspot, leaving its front completely mangled. Scores of others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities. Police and emergency responders coordinated rescue efforts as locals gathered at the scene.

Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich confirmed the accident, which briefly paralyzed transport, and investigations are ongoing.

Elsewhere, a Guardian bus carrying students overturned in Kimende, but no fatalities were reported; some children sustained minor injuries. These accidents are part of a growing wave of road crashes across Kenya, especially as commuters return from the holidays.

On Monday, ten people died and 15 were injured in a head-on collision at Karai, Naivasha, involving a Greenline bus and a Nanyuki Cabs shuttle. Three days earlier, five people were killed at Kikopey, Gilgil, when a 14-seater matatu collided with a trailer reportedly due to brake failure.

In response, the Motorists Association of Kenya has urged stricter regulation of driving schools, citing inadequate training as a key factor in rising road accidents, and called on NTSA to enforce comprehensive driver competency standards.
