Friends of the late Cyrus Jirongo, led by George Khaniri, have continued to express concerns over the circumstances surrounding his death.
Speaking during Jirongo’s funeral service, Khaniri said there are still glaring inconsistencies in the official account of what caused his death.
He noted that he and Mr Jirongo had planned to have lunch at Philip Kisia’s home in Nairobi the following day, making it unlikely that Jirongo would have decided to drive to Western Kenya the previous evening.
“I had plans with Jirongo to have lunch at Philip Kisia’s residence the following day. It is not possible that Jirongo could quietly decide to travel to the village again the evening before. That is not possible,” Khaniri said.
Additionally, he questioned why some individuals appear uncomfortable when friends and family insist on thorough investigations into the matter.
“The family wants closure on this issue. I don’t understand why some people are uncomfortable,” he posed.
Describing the death as mysterious, Khaniri said that based on the long period he had known Cyrus Jirongo, there was no way the late politician could have driven himself to Naivasha.
Echoing similar sentiments, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria urged the family to use ritual means to punish those who may have been involved in the death.
Kuria added that some senior Luhya leaders in government are hesitant to assist the family in unraveling the mystery, forcing them to seek alternative means.
