Nadia Cherono Ruto’s life story is one of resilience, compassion, and unexpected destiny. Born in Machakos County, her first days were marked by heartbreak after she was abandoned shortly after birth. Her survival and early upbringing were made possible by the care and dedication of Catholic nuns at Madre Ippolita Children’s Home, where she found safety and hope when she needed it most.
Her life took a dramatic turn in 2015 during a charitable fundraiser attended by then Deputy President William Ruto. Touched by Nadia’s story, Dr. Ruto made a life-changing decision to adopt her, welcoming her into his family. He gave her the name Cherono in honour of his mother, Sarah Cherono Cheruiyot, symbolising deep personal meaning and continuity.
Even before William Ruto became President, Nadia was a constant presence by his side, accompanying him to public engagements and earning admiration for their close bond. Over the years, she has grown up in the public eye with quiet confidence.
In 2024, Nadia joined President Ruto on several high-profile events, including a three-day state visit to Ghana and the World Rally Championship Safari Rally in Naivasha. Now grown, she continues to share meaningful moments with her father, including a church service at the State House Chapel in Nairobi in 2025 — a powerful reflection of a journey shaped by compassion, faith, and family.
