Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has issued a response to President William Ruto’s recent comments encouraging young men to pursue #marriage.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, President William Ruto urged young men in their 20s to take responsibility and consider settling down instead of identifying as single for prolonged periods.
“If you are a man, be courageous enough to marry the woman you love. Many people avoid responsibilities under the guise of being single,”
President #Ruto said.
However, shortly after the event, Mosiria offered a contrasting view. He noted that the current economic environment makes it difficult for many young people – both men and women – to enter marriage without financial stability.
Mr. Mosiria argued that comparing today’s economic realities with those of previous generations is misleading. According to him, marriage can only thrive when young people have stable income and opportunities.
He suggested that the government should, instead, focus on empowering the youth through targeted support, including starter projects, training, and financial assistance.
“Mr. President, with the economy as it is, many young people are prioritizing survival over marriage. My humble suggestion is whether the Ministry of Youth can introduce a ‘Starter Life Kit’ for all young adults aged 25 and above – a one-year support program to help them begin their lives and build stability,” Geoffrey Mosiria said further.
During the same church event, First Lady Rachel Ruto encouraged couples to prioritize faith and communication in their relationships. She emphasized that putting God first and openly discussing challenges can help partners build stronger and healthier marriages.
