Huduma Kenya has reassured Kenyans that the replacement of lost national identity cards remains free, dismissing growing speculation that applicants could soon be required to pay.
The clarification was issued through the agency’s official X platform, where it responded to a concerned citizen seeking confirmation on whether the earlier waiver on replacement fees was still in place.
“ID replacement is still free,” the agency stated, putting to rest uncertainty that had been circulating online.
The concerns had been particularly pronounced among young people, many of whom feared that new charges could hinder their ability to replace lost IDs in time to participate in key civic processes such as voter registration.
Huduma Kenya’s response now offers relief to affected citizens, affirming that access to identification services remains unchanged and without cost.
