The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has advised motorists facing difficulties with the processing of reflective number plates to seek assistance through a centralised digital platform on its official website.
The move comes amid rising complaints from Kenyans over prolonged delays in the issuance of number plates, logbooks, and smart driving licences, which have sparked widespread concern and online backlash.
NTSA says the platform is intended to help affected applicants formally lodge their concerns and enable the Authority to track, follow up, and resolve cases more efficiently.
The directive follows growing public frustration over persistent delays in the issuance of reflective number plates, logbooks, and smart driving licences. In recent days, several Kenyans took to social media to complain about prolonged waiting periods, despite making multiple follow-ups with the Authority.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, NTSA advised motorists to submit their complaints through the Service Status portal on its website, ntsa.go.ke. The Authority noted that the platform is designed to streamline follow-ups and enable officials to track and resolve individual cases more efficiently.
“Kindly provide your details via this portal, servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke. We will make a follow-up,” NTSA stated on its official Facebook page, while apologising for the delays.
Once a complaint is lodged, NTSA officials will review the matter, conduct follow-ups, and subsequently notify the motorist on the status of their documents.
To check the status of reflective number plates or logbooks, applicants are required to visit the NTSA website, navigate to Online Services, then select Other Services. From the drop-down menu, users should click on Uncollected Driving Licence and Number Plates, choose whether to search for a number plate or logbook, and then click Search followed by Request Follow-Up.
Applicants checking the status of a smart driving licence are required to enter their national ID number, while those tracking number plates should use their vehicle registration number.
The clarification comes amid sustained pressure on NTSA to address the delays, with some motorists reporting waiting periods of up to one year, while most cite delays ranging between three and six months since their initial application.
