Motorists across Kenya have been put on notice after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) rolled out a renewed push to clear a growing pile of uncollected number plates, warning that the backlog is straining its service capacity nationwide.
In a directive issued on Monday, April 20, the agency urged vehicle owners to verify the status of their plates before visiting collection centres. Applicants are required to log into the government’s digital platform, eCitizen, to confirm whether their plates are ready.
“Follow the link to check if your number plate is ready for collection via the service portal: ntsa.go.ke,” the Authority stated.
Through the integrated NTSA–eCitizen system, motorists can track their applications in real time. Once logged in, users are taken to a personalised dashboard displaying their details and a range of transport-related services.
To check availability, vehicle owners are directed to the vehicle registration search tab, which indicates whether a number plate is still under processing or ready for pickup.
The portal also consolidates key records, linking a user’s number plate details with their driving licence information. Additionally, it provides a ‘Report Issue’ feature alongside support contacts for those experiencing difficulties.
NTSA advised motorists facing challenges to reach out through its official helplines or email channels for assistance.
The renewed call comes amid reports that thousands of reflective number plates remain uncollected, clogging storage facilities and slowing down service delivery across the country.
