The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken firm action against four public service vehicle (PSV) operators by suspending their operating licences over safety breaches.
In a statement released on Monday, January 19, the authority said the affected long-distance transport companies were linked to several fatal road accidents reported during the December 2025 festive season. NTSA noted that the suspensions followed investigations that revealed serious non-compliance with established road safety standards.
According to the regulator, the decision was based on failure to meet the requirements outlined in KS 2295:2023, as well as breaches of the #NTSA (Operation of Public Service Vehicles) Regulations, 2014.
The companies whose licences have been suspended include Monna Comfort Sacco, Greenline Company, Naekana Route 134 Sacco Limited, and Uwezo Coast Sacco.
Meanwhile, NTSA issued a 21-day compliance notice to two other operators – The Guardian Coach Limited and Nanyuki Express Cab Services Limited – directing them to rectify identified shortcomings or risk similar punitive action.
The authority explained that all six operators failed to fully adhere to safety measures introduced to reduce road accidents and enhance passenger protection, particularly during high-traffic periods.
NTSA further indicated that a comprehensive safety compliance audit will be conducted on the suspended operators before their licences can be reinstated. Until then, traffic police have been instructed to impound any vehicles belonging to the affected companies found operating in defiance of the suspension.
The regulator also cautioned members of the public against boarding vehicles operated by the suspended companies, emphasizing that the move is part of its broader commitment to improving road safety and safeguarding passengers across the country.
