The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the passing of Georgina Margaret Oketch, a member of the party’s Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly.
In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, the party said Oketch died after a short illness, though it did not specify the exact date of her death. ODM described her as a dedicated leader who championed inclusion and disability rights within the party and the wider community.
“We mourn the passing of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch, a member of the ODM Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly. We have lost a committed member whose contribution will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace,” ODM said.
Her death was reported just hours after Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the passing of Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s nominated MP, Denar Joseph Hamisi, at the age of 56.
Wetang’ula said Hamisi died on the morning of Saturday, December 6, at around 7am. Hamisi was nominated to Parliament under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party after the 2022 General Election.
During his tenure, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, earning praise for his diligence and humility.
“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all who experienced his unwavering dedication to serving the nation,” the Speaker said.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who previously led the ANC party, also mourned Hamisi, describing him as a principled and dependable leader.
