The Authority revealed on Wednesday, December 24, that the operation has led to the detention of 42 drivers and the clamping of 418 vehicles due to non-compliance with traffic regulations. NTSA officials indicated that the measures are part of intensified efforts to enhance road safety and curb reckless driving as holiday travel peaks.

According to the NTSA, the crackdown, which has been ongoing since the start of the festive period, has uncovered widespread violations across the country. Over the past four days, the Authority has flagged 1,702 safety breaches, ranging from expired licences and vehicle documents to over-speeding and unsafe vehicle conditions.

The NTSA emphasized that the current measures are not just punitive but are aimed at protecting motorists and passengers from avoidable accidents. “Compliance with traffic regulations is critical, particularly during high-travel periods such as the festive season. Motorists are urged to ensure that their vehicles and driving documents are in order to avoid penalties,” the Authority stated.

The clampdown also serves as a warning to habitual offenders, with authorities vowing to enforce stricter penalties, including potential licence revocations for those found repeatedly violating traffic laws.

Road safety experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that the festive period typically sees a surge in traffic accidents caused by negligence and rule-breaking. They say such enforcement drives are vital in fostering responsible driving behaviour and reducing road carnage.
