Several students were injured on Saturday morning after a school van belonging to Mahehe Friends Academy was involved in a road accident along Charity Road in Endarasha, Kieni West Constituency, Nyeri County.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll and plunge into a roadside ditch. The van sustained extensive damage, with its front section badly crushed, the windscreen shattered, and seats dislodged by the impact.
The crash left several pupils trapped inside the wreckage, prompting an immediate rescue response. More than six ambulances, emergency rescue teams, and local residents rushed to the scene to assist in evacuating the injured students.
The casualties were taken to Endarasha Health Centre, where they are receiving urgent medical attention. The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident, stating that the school van veered off the road before overturning. Authorities noted that rescue and response efforts were carried out swiftly, though the exact number of injured pupils has not yet been officially confirmed.
The incident has left the local community shaken, renewing concerns over road safety and the transportation of schoolchildren. Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
