Police in Muragara, Kirinyaga County, have launched a manhunt for a woman suspected of stabbing and killing a man following a dispute over a Ksh 60 debt on Christmas Day.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, after a heated argument between the suspect and the deceased escalated into a fatal confrontation. The victim reportedly died on the spot after sustaining deep stab wounds inflicted during the quarrel. Investigators believe the woman was romantically involved with the deceased.
Preliminary findings indicate that the disagreement began over a small amount of money, Ksh60, which quickly spiraled out of control. Witnesses told police that the two were heard arguing loudly before the altercation turned violent. The suspect is said to have fled the scene immediately after the stabbing, leaving the victim lying in a pool of blood.
Residents who arrived at the scene alerted local authorities, but efforts to save the man were unsuccessful as he had already succumbed to his injuries by the time police and medics arrived. The body was later moved to a nearby mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police have since intensified efforts to track down the suspect, who is believed to be hiding within the county or neighboring regions. Officers have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may lead to her arrest, assuring confidentiality to informants.
The incident has shocked local residents, many of whom expressed disbelief that such a minor dispute could result in loss of life. Authorities have condemned the act and urged couples and community members to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts, especially during the festive season.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
