Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has broken his silence over a dramatic confrontation involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, offering a sharply different account that disputes claims of intimidation, assault, and firearm use.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, Alai dismissed allegations that he threatened or attacked the MP, insisting the narrative being circulated is exaggerated and unsupported by evidence.

Alai made the remarks during a televised interview on Monday, January 5, where he firmly rejected Babu Owino’s claim that the MCA physically assaulted him at a Nairobi restaurant. According to the MP, Alai allegedly drew a gun and struck him during the altercation.

The Kileleshwa MCA, however, denied ever brandishing a firearm, instead shifting blame to the Embakasi East legislator for provoking the confrontation.

“I did not draw a gun on him. Yes, I had a licensed firearm on my waist, but I never removed it,” Alai said. He explained that because he was dressed in a shirt without a jacket, the weapon was visible, prompting someone seated next to him to discreetly take it away to avoid escalation.

Challenging his accusers, Alai called on investigators and the public to rely on verifiable evidence rather than allegations. He noted that the restaurant where the incident occurred is fitted with surveillance cameras and urged that any footage showing him drawing a gun be produced.

Recounting how the confrontation began, Alai said he was seated with others when Babu Owino approached their table. He claimed he told the MP he was uncomfortable greeting him, after which tensions rose. The MCA alleged that the MP pushed his head while making remarks about future political appointments should he become Nairobi governor in 2027.

Alai further accused Babu Owino of escalating the situation by repeatedly pushing him, forcing him to stand up and push back in self-defense. His account sharply contradicts Babu Owino’s version, in which the MP claims Alai poured water on him and struck him with a gun, allegations the MCA maintains are false.
