Outspoken Senator Edwin Sifuna has dismissed claims linking him to former President Uhuru Kenyatta in mobilising support for the Linda Mwananchi tours.

Speaking during an interview on NTV Kenya on Tuesday morning, the embattled ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator denied holding any political discussions with the former Head of State. He described allegations circulating online as baseless and misleading.

Sifuna clarified that assumptions about his automatic involvement in the leadership structure of the Azimio la Umoja coalition were misplaced. According to him, his current mandate is strictly within ODM and the Linda Mwananchi movement.

“I have not had a conversation with him (Uhuru Kenyatta). People assume that because I am the SG of ODM, I am automatically part of Azimio’s council. I do not have information about what is happening there. You can only ask me about ODM and Linda Mwananchi,” he stated.

He also addressed speculation that the Linda Mwananchi tours were funded by networks linked to Kenyatta. Sifuna maintained that the initiative has largely relied on grassroots mobilisation and public goodwill. He pledged to provide a transparent breakdown of campaign expenditures, emphasising that ordinary wananchi have played a central role in sustaining the movement.

On the 2027 presidential race, Sifuna said the caucus aims to build a formidable opposition capable of challenging President William Ruto. He noted that selecting a flag bearer would follow structured consultations and data-driven analysis.

Sifuna argued that the movement should nurture multiple strong presidential contenders rather than rally around a single individual, insisting that unity and a significant electoral margin would be crucial in unseating the current administration.
