ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has lifted the lid on what he described as secret meetings between a section of ODM MPs and President William Ruto, allegedly aimed at shaping the party’s future role in government.

Speaking in Lugari Sub-county on Tuesday, Sifuna claimed he was fully aware of ongoing late-night meetings involving some ODM members who, he said, are plotting to “auction” the party to the highest bidder. He warned that such engagements undermine party structures and principles, insisting that ODM’s direction cannot be decided by a few individuals operating in secrecy.

According to Sifuna, any major decision regarding the party’s political future must be reached through broad consultations involving party organs and members across the country, not through backdoor negotiations. He cautioned party leaders against being pressured into accepting positions or decisions reached in isolated meetings.

“Hawa watu watakufinyia kwa corner wakuambie sema hii,” Sifuna remarked, directing the warning to ODM leader Oburu Odinga and urging vigilance against internal schemes that could weaken the party.

Sifuna’s assertions were echoed by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’, both of whom emphasized the need to keep ODM united and independent ahead of the next general election. The two leaders stressed that the party must remain intact and focused on fronting its own presidential candidate rather than being drawn into covert arrangements.

Governor Orengo noted that they would not relent in their efforts to safeguard the party from internal sabotage, accusing some members of holding clandestine meetings with President Ruto. He said ODM’s strength lies in unity and ideological clarity, warning that internal divisions could erode its bargaining power and relevance.
