The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has extended interim orders blocking the removal of Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), paving the way for a substantive hearing scheduled for March 12, 2026.
The decision means Sifuna will continue serving in his position until the tribunal fully determines the dispute. The case has drawn significant attention within the party, as it touches on leadership stability and internal governance at a critical political moment.
The tribunal’s directive came shortly after an ODM caucus meeting convened by Oburu Odinga brought together county chairpersons from across the country. The annual gathering focused on strengthening party unity and laying strategic groundwork ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking after the meeting, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said party officials had resolved to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts and reinforce internal structures. He added that the caucus emphasized the importance of discipline and cohesion as ODM prepares for upcoming political contests.
The extension of the tribunal orders introduces a legal dimension to the party’s internal dynamics, even as leaders publicly project unity and focus on organizational renewal. Political observers note that the outcome of the March 12 hearing could significantly influence ODM’s leadership direction and broader preparations for 2027.
For now, the PPDT’s ruling maintains the status quo, ensuring continuity in the party’s secretariat as members await the tribunal’s final determination.
