Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has claimed that his Linda Mwananchi campaign truck was attacked and stoned in Riat, Kisumu County, in what he described as a politically motivated disruption.
In a statement shared Friday, Sifuna said the incident occurred shortly after the convoy passed the Riat area, alleging that “state-sponsored goons” were behind the attack. “Ishabatizwa… Our crew reporting that state sponsored goons struck just after Riat in Kisumu… lakini safari itaendelea,” he posted, signaling that the movement would not be deterred.
According to preliminary reports from his team, the truck sustained minor damage, but no serious injuries were reported among the crew members. The incident briefly caused tension in the area as supporters gathered around the vehicle following the stoning.
The Linda Mwananchi initiative, which has recently intensified its grassroots mobilization efforts across western Kenya, is expected to proceed with its planned activities despite the disruption. Sifuna reaffirmed his commitment to continue engaging supporters, insisting that intimidation would not silence their calls for accountability and reforms.
The Nairobi Senator is now set to headline a mega rally in Kakamega on Saturday, where he is expected to address supporters on governance issues and outline the next phase of the Linda Mwananchi campaign. Organizers say preparations for the Kakamega rally are complete, with large crowds anticipated from across the region.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the Riat incident.
