The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has intensified preparations ahead of upcoming by-elections, announcing fresh party nominations aimed at selecting candidates to contest vacant seats in both the National Assembly and several County Assemblies.

In a notice dated December 23, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman Anthony Mwaura, UDA confirmed that the nominations will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026. The process will cover the Isiolo South parliamentary seat, alongside three vacant ward seats in Embu and Kakamega counties.

According to the notice, the county assembly positions include Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County, as well as West Kabras Ward in Kakamega County. These seats became vacant following various circumstances, including resignations and deaths, necessitating fresh political contests.

The party has invited interested aspirants to submit their applications in line with UDA’s nomination rules and timelines. Aspirants are expected to collect and return their nomination papers within the stipulated period, while ensuring they meet all constitutional and party requirements.

UDA further noted that nomination fees will apply, with amounts varying depending on the position being sought. The party emphasized that only duly registered members will be eligible to participate in the exercise, either as aspirants or voters, underscoring the importance of party loyalty and internal democracy.

The National Elections Board assured members that the nominations will be conducted in a transparent, credible, and peaceful manner. Security agencies and party officials will be deployed to oversee the process and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.

Successful candidates will go on to fly the UDA flag in the subsequent by-elections to be conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The party expressed confidence in securing the seats, citing its strong grassroots support in the affected regions.

UDA’s announcement comes at a time when political parties are steadily repositioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, making the upcoming nominations a key test of the party’s organizational strength and popularity at the local level.

The exercise forms part of the ruling party’s broader strategy to consolidate its political presence ahead of future electoral contests.
