Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been released from Kamiti Maximum Prison following a court review of his bail terms.

The Milimani High Court reduced his bail to KSh20 million in cash, with two sureties in property valued at not less than KSh30 million each, pending the hearing of his KSh588 million corruption case.

Waititu was convicted in February for failing to safeguard public funds, receiving KSh25 million irregularly from an unlawful tender. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison or a KSh53.5 million fine.

His wife, Susan Wangare, involved in the same case, was ordered to pay KSh500,000 or serve one year in prison.

The former governor has faced multiple legal battles over graft allegations since leaving office in 2019.
