Billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi has pledged to stand with former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju during what he described as a difficult moment, as Tuju’s multimillion-shilling city property faces a possible auction.
Speaking on Sunday during a visit to Tuju’s premises, Wanjigi arrived at the site accompanied by his lawyer and deputy, Willis Otieno. In his remarks to the press, Wanjigi said Tuju’s situation reflected what he termed as “state persecution and intimidation,” arguing that the former minister deserved the support and protection of fellow citizens.
According to Wanjigi, the events surrounding Tuju’s property raised serious concerns about the treatment of individuals involved in political and business disputes. He warned that what was happening to Tuju could easily happen to others if such actions were allowed to continue unchecked.
Wanjigi further noted that the trend was worrying, pointing to a recent incident involving Irungu Nyakera in Kisumu, where Nyakera’s restaurant was reportedly raided by what he described as “protected goons.”
“We all have to come together and stop this madness, which seems to be the new strategy by the obvious land grabber we all know,” Wanjigi stated during the briefing.
Among those present at the press conference were Gladys Wanga, the Governor of Homa Bay County, and Otiende Amollo, the Member of Parliament for Rarieda Constituency, along with other notable figures from political and legal circles.
For his part, #Tuju questioned why more than 100 police officers had surrounded his Dari Limited property, saying the deployment made it appear as though he was a fugitive.
Tuju maintained that he had not refused to repay the loan in question. Instead, he claimed the bank was acting under instructions to seize his property and had declined to consider his proposal for a structured repayment plan.
