Residents of Waruku are counting heavy losses after a devastating late-night fire razed several homes and businesses in Kileleshwa Ward, Nairobi County.

The inferno, which erupted on the night of Monday, May 25, 2026, left dozens of families homeless and stranded in the cold after property of unknown value was reduced to ashes.

Panic and confusion gripped the area as residents scrambled to save their belongings, with some forced to watch helplessly as the flames rapidly consumed their houses and shops. Witnesses said the fire spread quickly through the densely populated settlement before emergency responders arrived at the scene.

According to the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai, at least 20 houses and 11 businesses were affected by the incident.

“There is an emergency fire outbreak in Waruku. Your response and support will be appreciated,” Alai said in a post shared on his official X account at around 9:45 pm.

The Nairobi Fire Department responded to the incident and managed to contain the blaze before it spread further to nearby structures.

Videos and photos circulating online showed huge flames lighting up the night sky as distraught residents desperately attempted to salvage whatever they could from the burning structures.
