Edwin Sifuna has been removed from his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), marking a significant shake-up within the party’s top leadership.
The decision was confirmed on Tuesday by senior ODM officials after a resolution passed during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, February 11.
In a statement released after the meeting, the NEC said the move followed deep concern over what it described as increasing cases of indiscipline within the party, particularly among leaders holding senior positions. The committee emphasized that ODM operates strictly under its constitution and that all members are expected to respect established structures and collective decision-making.
“The National Executive Council noted with concern the growing disregard for party discipline, especially at the leadership level. ODM remains anchored on constitutionalism, the rule of law, and decisions reached collectively through its legally established organs,” the statement said.
Party insiders indicated that the resolution was part of broader efforts to reinforce internal order and ensure unity as the party navigates key political moments ahead. While the NEC did not immediately announce Sifuna’s replacement, officials said further communication would be issued in due course.
The development is expected to spark debate within political circles, given Sifuna’s high-profile role and vocal presence in national politics. ODM leadership, however, maintained that the decision was guided by principle rather than personalities, insisting that no individual is bigger than the party’s constitution and values.
