The driver of the bus that killed politician Cyrus Jirongo early Saturday morning has broken his silence.
Speaking to a local media outlet, the driver, Kamau Githinji , disclosed that it was a Climax Coaches bus involved in the ghastly head-on collision that claimed the life of Mr. Cyrus Jirongo.
The visibly shaken driver narrated how the tragedy unfolded in a split second, saying the Mercedes car was exiting a petrol station and drove directly onto the highway. He explained that the car’s driver appeared to be trying to avoid traffic congestion and ended up swerving into the bus’s lane, leading to the fatal crash.
“The car was leaving the petrol station after refueling. The driver was avoiding the jam, and that is how he drove into my lane before the accident happened,” he recounted.
When asked whether he knew who was driving the smaller vehicle, he said he only learned that the victim was Cyrus Jirongo after police informed him of the fatality.
He added that the Climax bus was ferrying a total of 65 passengers, while the ill-fated car had only the driver on board.
The bus driver has since expressed remorse and asked the family to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
